Coping With Stress: Cognitive-Behavioral Stress Reduction
Stress is a normal part of life, but when it becomes overwhelming it can have a negative impact on our physical and mental health. Fortunately, there are many strategies for managing stress, including cognitive-behavioral stress reduction. This approach focuses on changing the way we think and behave in order to reduce stress.
What is Cognitive-Behavioral Stress Reduction?
Cognitive-behavioral stress reduction (CBSR) is a type of psychotherapy that helps people identify and change the thoughts and behaviors that contribute to their stress. It is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected and can influence each other. By changing our thoughts and behaviors, we can reduce our stress levels.
How Does Cognitive-Behavioral Stress Reduction Work?
CBSR typically involves a series of sessions with a therapist. During these sessions, the therapist will help the client identify the thoughts and behaviors that are contributing to their stress. The therapist will then help the client develop strategies for changing these thoughts and behaviors.
For example, if a client is feeling overwhelmed by their workload, the therapist might help them identify ways to break down their tasks into smaller, more manageable pieces. The therapist might also help the client develop coping strategies for dealing with their stress, such as deep breathing or mindfulness exercises.
Benefits of Cognitive-Behavioral Stress Reduction
CBSR can be an effective way to reduce stress and improve overall wellbeing. It can help people identify and change the thoughts and behaviors that are contributing to their stress, and develop healthier ways of coping.
CBSR can also help people develop better problem-solving skills and learn how to manage their emotions more effectively. This can help them better handle stressful situations in the future.
Who Can Benefit From Cognitive-Behavioral Stress Reduction?
CBSR can be beneficial for anyone who is struggling with stress. It can be especially helpful for people who are dealing with chronic stress or who have difficulty managing their emotions.

I can not believe you said that benzodiazepines can be rx’d for stress reduction! Are you not aware of the pandemic of deaths caused by benzodiazepine withdrawal! These are patients who followed their doctor’s prescription! I’m not talking about the street users. Many of those by suicide because of how awful the withdrawals are. The use of benzodiazepines for stress reduction needs to stop .
