Types of Parenting Styles
Parenting styles are the ways in which parents interact with their children and the strategies they use to raise them. Different parenting styles can have a significant impact on a child’s development, behavior, and overall wellbeing. It is important for parents to be aware of the different types of parenting styles and how they can affect their children.
Authoritarian Parenting
Authoritarian parenting is a style of parenting that is characterized by strict rules, rigid expectations, and a lack of communication. Parents who use this style of parenting often have a “my way or the highway” attitude and expect their children to obey their rules without question. This style of parenting can lead to children feeling anxious, resentful, and disconnected from their parents.
Permissive Parenting
Permissive parenting is a style of parenting that is characterized by a lack of rules and expectations. Parents who use this style of parenting often give their children a lot of freedom and rarely enforce any rules or expectations. This style of parenting can lead to children feeling entitled, irresponsible, and lacking in self-discipline.
Uninvolved Parenting
Uninvolved parenting is a style of parenting that is characterized by a lack of involvement in a child’s life. Parents who use this style of parenting often do not provide guidance, support, or discipline and may not even be aware of their child’s activities or needs. This style of parenting can lead to children feeling neglected, insecure, and lacking in self-esteem.
Authoritative Parenting
Authoritative parenting is a style of parenting that is characterized by clear rules and expectations, open communication, and a supportive environment. Parents who use this style of parenting often provide guidance and support while also allowing their children to make their own decisions. This style of parenting can lead to children feeling secure, confident, and capable.
Gentle Parenting
Gentle parenting is a style of parenting that is characterized by empathy, understanding, and respect. Parents who use this style of parenting often strive to create a safe and nurturing environment for their children and focus on building strong relationships. This style of parenting can lead to children feeling loved, secure, and emotionally healthy.
Childhood Trauma
Childhood trauma is a type of trauma that is experienced by children as a result of neglect, abuse, or other traumatic events. This type of trauma can have a significant impact on a child’s development, behavior, and overall wellbeing. When I uploaded this on TikTok, an overwhelming amount of people resonated with numbers 1 and 4, and I want to say for those of you who don’t feel seen or heard growing up, that you’re important, your voice matters and I wish you so much love and healing. ❤️

1 and 4 are kinda like my parents
My parents were authoritarian until I was about 16 then it was like overnight change to gentle. I felt like I walked in a parallel universe. However, they still treated my brother authoritarian even now he’s 18. Kinda hilarious but I do feel bad for him.
Mine are a kind of mix from a authoritative and gentle parent. They were usually very affectionate and loving, and cared about me and my future. But they did hit and yell at me, which I had absolutely no objections to. I personally believe children should be well disciplined and taught how to act.
I had the last parent. All she did was watch tv and eat. Most of the time we made our own dinners.
I wish I at least had parents 2 and 3 but unfortunately I have 1
I feel like my mom is a mix of 1,2, and 3. In my childhood (10 and under)
she was most like the 1st one.
now I’m my teenage years, she’s more
2, and 3 👍
My mom is permissive and gentle
I do both authoritative and gentle parenting aka A Parent. 💁🏿♀️
Just raise your kids and do the best you can.
I think I was permissively raised but that’s much better than authoritarian or neglectful
Mum was 1 dad was 4
I have gentle parents, though they would show frustration when this happened to me whenni was younger, they weren't threatening and now I'm older and can make good decisions 🙂
a mix of 1 and 3
My aunt is 1 on top of that she always threatens her 3 yr old every 30 mins. On top of that she hits her with so much force.etc.

I was raised with a combination of neglectful and authoritarian “parenting”
my parents are divorced… 1 and 4
With my grandma it’s a cross between 1-2-3
With my grandpa it’s a cross between 1-4 and only a lil bit of the other two like only 5% with those ones
With my mom it’s a cross between 1-2-4
With my dad it’s a cross between all
And with my sister it’s 3.
My favorites (in order)
1. Sister
2. Grandma
3. Father
4. Mother
5. Grandpa
My parents aren't neglectful. They're just very unaffectionate and completely careless towards how I feel. They do so make dinners, drop me off at school, etc. We just don't do love. We don't really talk, and the only aspect of my life they care about are my grades.
