Planting at My Sister’s House + Stone Wall Project Update!
My sister recently moved into a new house and asked me to help her with the landscaping. She wanted to create a beautiful garden that would be easy to maintain and would add to the overall aesthetic of the house. After doing some research, I decided to focus on planting at my sister’s house and creating a stone wall project.
Planting at My Sister’s House
I started by researching the best plants for my sister’s climate and soil type. I chose a variety of perennials, shrubs, and trees that would provide year-round color and interest. I also chose plants that would be easy to care for and would require minimal maintenance. I planted a mix of evergreen and deciduous plants, as well as some flowering plants. I also added some ground cover plants to help keep the soil moist and reduce weeds.
Stone Wall Project
Once the plants were in place, I started work on the stone wall project. I chose a variety of stones in different sizes and shapes to create an interesting and unique look. I used mortar to secure the stones in place and then added a layer of soil and mulch to help keep the wall in place. The wall was a great addition to the garden and added a lot of character to the space.
Final Touches
Once the stone wall was complete, I added some finishing touches to the garden. I added a few benches and a small fountain to create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. I also added some lighting to the garden to create a warm and inviting atmosphere in the evenings.

LOVE IT!!!! It's coming along so beautifully. I love the walls and steps, they really make the whole garden. Can't wait for the raised beds. So much fun!
So excited for Monica and Nick!!
Can't wait for Nick to see everything you and Monica did today. It was so fun to see you both so excited and hear both of you in conversation. Such a nice relationship. Also a shout out to Pedro and his crew – awesome job. Loved the video.
Bravo 👏🏻 to both of you!. It’s looking so pretty 🤩
That pile of stone in the corner would influence me to build a waterfall there🥰
This is one of my fav projects. So happy for Monica and Nick!
A lot of trust the process. ❤ love the video
I got all excited seeing the stones in the corner thinking there was a pond going in. The yard is really shaping up. Love the stone work.
love it
That looks so good Monicas!! Loving the rock walls and that’s going to be stunning when you get grass and mulch. So happy for you to be getting this done.
Great job! What wonderful sisters!
Definitely do a follow-up, when the grass is established.
I don’t know how good that soil is, especially where you’re planting grass, but I would consider taking some of it out and mix in good-quality topsoil and compost. That way your grass won’t require so much watering and fertilizer to stay looking good.
I love Monica. She's so sweet. I loved your oouing and ahhing together. You guys are cute. Wishing you all the best in your new garden Monicas!
The backyard is looking great!!! With those rocks still stacked in that back corner, all I can think of is how amazing a small rock fountain would look there! And, you can enjoy it from the patio. Monica, maybe one day?!
Alnwick – good job! We live close by. It’s a definite bucket list place for a gardener to visit.
Laura, your such a sweet sister to do this for Monica. 💕 It looks so beautiful. 💕Looking forward to seeing the end result.
Great job girls.
The rose was the correct name alnwick which is a little town in the north of England I loved it there when i was liveing in uk.
About 1 hour drive to were i was born.thank you both xxx
I hope we will see an update after everything is done and blooming
Beautiful and interesting….looking forward to the full bloom to see the character of this yard when it starts smiling back at you. Love and enjoy the moments.
If the balance with the arb's is really bugging you, what about putting the Lilac center with the arched trellis and flanking either side with the arborvitaes? Just a thought
It looks so good girls and I’m sure u two had a lot of fun doing this project together!
is it just me or does it still look like its on a slant??
The stone wall is pretty! So happy for Monica's and her new space!
Monica looks so grateful for the help you're giving her. She looks like she's going to bust with joy.
The rock wall has changed the yard immensely.
What would you use to protect a wooden fence if you wanted to make a bed like that along it?
Monica’s yard is coming out fantastic ✨ great work to all
This video has been so inspiring! I might have missed it but is there a rule/recommendation about how far to plant a tree next to a fence? I’ve planted 5 trees and I’m concerned I’ve messed up.
Absolutely beautiful !!!
Laura: ‘Look at all these plants. Monica: ‘Yeah, we went a little overboard. Me: Ah, have you met your sister?😊
Alnwick – as in panic. We have some silent Ls in the English language …😂
oh my!!! i am loving this!!!!! so neat to watch this come together and super inspiring. thanks so much for sharing <3
The rock wall and the stairs are lovely. I really LIKE the huge slab stairs so much. Very jealous of the lovely set up!
You and your sister work really well together!
You’ve created so much character in this space! When those trees mature, this garden will be a show stopper. I love how cozy it feels already. The step down is my favorite. The view from the patio is so lovely with the rock walls curving. I love this transformation!
I personally like the Japanese maple up on the deck or in garden near there. The colour and shape are amazing.
Where did the arbor come from?
So much fun to watch you and your sister do this project. Such fun memories being created! I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished.
So pretty, I'm proud for Monica and her husband. ❤️
That's not a rock wall lol 😂 that's a flag/stepping stone wall please learn your landscaping terms .😂
I have two Lady of Shalot here too! I’m building my own arbor so they’re in ground waiting for the permanent place.
I love the stone wall in your sister's garden. The corner where the stone is stacked would look great with a pondless waterfall there. A great focal point.
Looks amazing ladies!
Did I miss info as to whether houses will eventually be built in back of Monica and Nick? In any case, everything is coming along very quickly and that is so exciting😊❤!
Ok, we are going to need REGULAR updates on Monica's garden now. Everything you two are putting in is so beautiful!!!
I love this. I love seeing you take a "basic" yard and transform it to an oasis! Question: Is it standard practice that homes in your area all have sprinkler systems? I live in Delaware and no one has a sprinkler system, not even large community areas or business parks.
Looks fabulous! Are you going to put in a fountain or water feature? Would really be nice!!!
Love it!! What kind of light exposure will that rhubarb get? What does rhubarb like in the high desert? Thank you!!
