Essential Techniques for Jewelry Making | Jewelry 101
Jewelry making is an art form that has been around for centuries. It is a craft that requires skill, patience, and creativity. Jewelry making is a great way to express yourself and create something unique and beautiful. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced jewelry maker, there are some essential techniques that you should know in order to create beautiful pieces of jewelry.
Tools and Materials
The first step in jewelry making is to gather the necessary tools and materials. You will need pliers, wire cutters, a hammer, a saw, a drill, and a variety of other tools depending on the type of jewelry you are making. You will also need a variety of materials such as beads, wire, metal, and other components.
Design
Once you have gathered the necessary tools and materials, the next step is to design your jewelry. This is where your creativity comes into play. You can create a design from scratch or use a template. You can also look for inspiration from other jewelry makers or from online sources.
Soldering
Soldering is a technique used to join two pieces of metal together. This is done by heating the metal with a soldering iron and then applying a flux to the joint. The flux helps to protect the metal from oxidation and helps the solder to flow into the joint.
Casting
Casting is a technique used to create a three-dimensional object from a two-dimensional design. This is done by pouring molten metal into a mold and then allowing it to cool and harden. This technique is often used to create intricate designs and shapes.
Polishing
Polishing is a technique used to give jewelry a smooth and shiny finish. This is done by using a polishing wheel and a polishing compound. The polishing wheel is used to buff the metal and the polishing compound is used to give the metal a glossy finish.
Stringing
Stringing is a technique used to attach beads and other components to a piece of jewelry. This is done by using a beading needle and thread. The needle is used to thread the beads onto the thread and the thread is used to tie the beads together.
Finishing
The final step in jewelry making is to finish the piece. This is done by adding a clasp or other findings to the piece. This is also the time to add any final touches such as engraving or adding a patina to the metal.

Great video; thanks! Since I am not interested in buying a cheap set of two or three pieces for under twenty dollars which is what I keep seeing other places, can you please tell me what brand(s) of tools you are using in this video? I have done a descriptive text search on line as well as a logo and image search and cannot find the brand. Thank you~
You are such a great teacher! I love your tutorials!❤
The simplicity of this video was like a breath of fresh air.
I enjoy your show so much. I watched a video on seed needed earrings. I love the earrings but no matter how much I watch it I can get the hang of the bridge stitch. Love this video, so well made and explained so well. I made a bracelet using the looper from a video you did and very happy with it.

This was great. Thanks!
I've been playing around making stitch markers to hold my place when I have to take my crochet hook out of my project. – Basically a drop earring with a clasp instead of a earring hook. –
But I didn't wrap my wire around after I made my circles. Now I wonder if I should go back and redo them. 🤔 none of them have come undone.
