A Tour of My Best and Worst Houseplants
Houseplants are a great way to add a bit of life and color to your home. They can also help to purify the air and provide a calming atmosphere. But not all houseplants are created equal. Some are easier to care for than others, and some are more likely to thrive in your home. In this article, I’ll take you on a tour of my best and worst houseplants, and provide some tips on how to care for them.
My Best Houseplants
My favorite houseplants are the ones that are easy to care for and don’t require a lot of attention. Here are some of my top picks:
Spider Plant
The spider plant is a great choice for beginners. It’s easy to care for and can tolerate a wide range of temperatures and light levels. It’s also known for its air-purifying qualities, making it a great choice for those looking to improve the air quality in their home.
Peace Lily
The peace lily is another great choice for those looking for an easy-to-care-for houseplant. It’s known for its air-purifying qualities and its ability to tolerate low light levels. It’s also known for its beautiful white flowers, which can add a touch of elegance to any room.
Snake Plant
The snake plant is a great choice for those looking for a low-maintenance houseplant. It’s known for its air-purifying qualities and its ability to tolerate low light levels. It’s also known for its striking foliage, which can add a touch of drama to any room.
My Worst Houseplants
Not all houseplants are created equal, and some are more difficult to care for than others. Here are some of my least favorite houseplants:
Fiddle Leaf Fig
The fiddle leaf fig is a popular houseplant, but it’s also one of the most difficult to care for. It requires a lot of light and consistent watering, and it’s prone to pests and diseases. It’s also known for its large, fiddle-shaped leaves, which can be difficult to keep clean.
Pothos
The pothos is another popular houseplant, but it’s also one of the most difficult to care for. It requires a lot of light and consistent watering, and it’s prone to pests and diseases. It’s also known for its long, trailing vines, which can be difficult to keep tidy.
English Ivy
The English ivy is a popular houseplant, but it’s also one of the most difficult to care for. It requires a lot of light and consistent watering, and it’s prone to pests and diseases. It’s also known for its long, trailing vines, which can be difficult to keep tidy.
Tips for Caring for Houseplants
Caring for houseplants can be tricky, but there are a few tips that can help. Here are some of my top tips for keeping your houseplants healthy and happy:
• Make sure to water your plants regularly, but don’t over-water them.
• Make sure to provide your plants with enough light, but don’t put them in direct sunlight.
• Make sure to fertilize your plants regularly, but don’t over-fertilize them.
• Make sure to prune your plants regularly, but don’t over-prune them.
• Make sure to check your plants for pests and diseases regularly, and treat them as soon as possible.

The Birkin loves to be ignored and can easily withstand going dry for a short period. I’ve even gone through a period when I hated this plant and wanted it to die and it didn’t. So now I kind of like it more.
My marble queen is only one week old, and the white variegation spots are turning yellow. Not quite as yellow as my golden Pothos, but much more yellow than the bright white it was when I first brought it home. Any tips on how to keep the bright colors??
whoops!😄
Ive loved watching your devils ivy grow over time in your videos :3
What a fun video. I really enjoy checking out your collection and getting some updates.
You obviously don’t have any indoor cats, otherwise they’d be pushing the plants away to sit in the sun!
Man, maybe it's your camera but your house is so bright and happy looking. Love it!
The Aglaonema Tigress is my favorite of all of my plants. I have 3 of them! You can't go wrong with an aggie! You have a really nice plant decorated home! Beautifullly done!
Me loving all the trellises in this video.. on my way to Amazon to just check if any cute ones pop up
What is loam?I researched but i still don't grasp the idea
When I was young, we (and others around us) had what we called Chinese money plants. I'm not sure… I think they weren't the same as what you have. There was a time in their life cycles when you could peel away outer layers of leaves (or leave to get that way on its own). My mom had a good-sized one that she eventually planted in the back yard under a leafy tree. It thrived there , in Southern NJ, USA, not far from the Pine Barrens.
I don't remember what they looked like green. We had some dried branches in the leaves " papery " stage, and also that one living plant.
When you grabbed the Tradescantia tricolour and it was crispy I laughed! It's just like mine! Beautiful… annoying and crispy. Great plants!
You'r house plants collection is absolutelly amazing. I can't still belive how you are able to take care of such enormous amout of your plants. For me, you are hero. Latelly I started having house plants and you'r chanel helped me a LOT. I think that I can say that you are my favourite plant care youtuber. The main difference betwen you and the other youtubers is that you are so profesional, strict and tasteful.
The Purple Heart ( tradescanthia purple pallida )and the tricolor ( wandering Jew. That’s what we call them in The USA). They love full sun and plenty of water. Prune back and push the cuttings back in the dirt. The Calathea Elgergrass plants, try using chlorine free water or rain water The leaves always turn brown with all the chemicals in water. The Peperomia plants like the soil to be a little moist. I love all of my plants and can’t wait to buy more. Beautiful collection of plants !
I am from the Netherlands and have a problem with the english names. It would be nice to mention the official name, like the Ficus and the Crassula.
Do you own your home? I can’t imagine being able to rent an affordable place like that with so much natural light
I love the way you style the pothos with the hooks. I love the variegation on your tigress plant.I also bought my fiddle leaf fiddle and jade plant from there. I am experimenting with 2 begonias in water and a diffenbachia.
I didn’t like it but then I found it for really cheap and now is growing on me, yes that’s me right there 😂
I killed my philodendron Birken. I feel a bit better now knowing it's a fussy plant. I think it's a beautiful plant and will give it one more try. I love the Chinese money plant but it also grows in that funny way, not bushy at all. Maybe I should try the peperomia raindrop instead. I didn't kill my potus and montsera (yet). I have the same green pot😀
Once again very helpful info. Thank you.
I love my Birken. I have it in leca, and it is loving it. Near constant new growth.
On the end of your mantle, you have what looks like a Sygonium podophyllum (Maria arrowhead plant?). It looks so good! I have one that hates me! No matter what I do, it continues to look worse and worse. If that is what you have, can you give me some tips? My other arrowhead plant (exotic illusion) is beautiful and growing like a weed. Go figure.
Thank you for this wonderful tour! I'm curious about the Pothos Devil's Ivy. I've heard all pothos referred to as Devil's Ivy colloquially so I'm never sure which species you're referring to. I googled and couldn't find a clear answer. Anyone know?
Dieffenbachias are my villains too. Few weeks back I complained about them and the same day I found that the one that was really struggling through the winter was in bloom. Few days later as the first blossom started to close off I noticed that another one is opening!!! Apparently it's very rare for them to bloom indoors and mine had two flowers at the same time. It still does not look great. Long naked stem with bidncrown of leaves on top. And two flowers. Although they don't really look like flowers…
I love how you call it like it is… I call things ugly all the time but I do love them 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Your plants might be naughty but they are beautiful and you are AWESOME! You crack me up😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I always look forward to your wonderful videos!!!!!
I find it surprising that your peperomia scandens isn't doing well, i got one a month ago thinking that all peperomias are easy and mine has been growing very fast and has no issue. I have it in my north window and I don't water much, i let it stay entirely dry for a couple days.
My marble queen is on the same treleaf plank 😂
Crazy Plant Guy recommends a 1/4 turn every other day for Chinese Money Plants and so far that's keeping mine relatively symmetrical
My aglaeonema is SUCH a teacher's pet, I'm tempted to get more for all the dingy spots in my house
Hello Mr Sheffield your plant collection has grown so much and your Monstera Deliciosa is spectacular. I like your lipstick 💄 plant and the orchids which are next on my list to buy.
I love that lipstick plant!! I want one and the variegated ficus has always been on my list. I have no space for even one more plant. I have so much trouble with calatheas!! My rattlesnake plant has been doing great for all year long then one day, it looked nearly dead…it seemed like it was overnight! I checked the water just a day or so before then when I saw it was nearly dead the soil seemed dry. I watered it and moved it under some grow lights where I could take care of it better. It had been under grow lights anyway but in another room. It hasn't perked back up yet and should have by now. I love calatheas but they hate me! Rex Begonias are so beautiful, I have a number of them and wish now I had kept them as my only plants in my collection but now it's too late, I have all kinds. I said when all the others die, I'll just stick with Rex, he's much more reliable! My Dieffenbachias are doing great, and I usually kill them so I don't know what I'm doing right. I do have several I nearly killed but several that's doing great…go figure! Thanks for the tour! Loved it!!
I don't own a ficus, but my own "ugly ficus turned beautiful ficus" plant was a Ginny plant. I thought it was kind of gangly and funky looking when I first saw it, but every time I returned to my friend's plant store I liked it more and more. Now it's my favorite plant haha
Wow, dude! what a great tour. Fantastic videos since I subscribed.
Love the way your plants are arranged in your home. I think the grow lights are a great investment for plants that are in odd spots.
Your videos means there's hope for me too. My kid thinks I'm crazy for buying so many, especially as quite a few have died on me but the experience, has greatly improved how i look after them.
Cant wait for your next video.
I like how you put up with them villans.
I moved my Diffenbachias to a different room. The end result is that they are now compost – oh well🙄
I had fungus gnats. I put a clove of garlic in all my plants. You will grow garlic which you can pull out but you won’t have any flys.
Your lipstick plant is gorgeous. You’ve convinced me that I need one too. Loved the tour!
I love it when you do a plant tour! Now I must go shopping for a lipstick plant Lol! I love my birkin too and my elgergrass (which i dusted yesterday with a paint brush). I have a never never plant (ctenanthe) its similar to elgergrass, also a favorite of mine 😊 ….how is your mandarin spider plant?
I like my birkin too. Other plants I've bought have died back and uf they come back, they come back, if they don't then less may have been learned. Sadly, due to COVID, all my orchids – all seventy of them in the greenhouse have died. £30/day just wasn't doable during winter. Having over 120 indoor plants adding the orchids coming indoors wasn't an option but I did get a few sold.
Dieffenbachias tell you when to water them
