Is Permissive Parenting Bad?
Permissive parenting is a parenting style that is characterized by low levels of expectations and discipline. It is often referred to as “indulgent” parenting, and it is the opposite of authoritarian parenting. Permissive parents are often warm and loving, but they are not very demanding or strict. They tend to give their children a lot of freedom and allow them to make their own decisions.
The idea of permissive parenting has been around for a long time, but it has become increasingly popular in recent years. Many parents believe that this style of parenting is beneficial for their children, as it allows them to be independent and make their own decisions. However, there is a growing body of research that suggests that permissive parenting can have a negative impact on children’s development.
The Effects of Permissive Parenting
Studies have shown that children who are raised in a permissive parenting environment are more likely to have behavioral problems. They are also more likely to have difficulty with self-regulation and impulse control. These children may also have difficulty forming relationships with peers and adults.
In addition, research has found that children who are raised in a permissive parenting environment are more likely to engage in risky behaviors, such as drug and alcohol use. They are also more likely to have poor academic performance and lower self-esteem.
Why Is Permissive Parenting Bad?
Permissive parenting is bad because it does not provide children with the structure and guidance that they need to develop into responsible adults. Without clear expectations and boundaries, children may struggle to make good decisions and may not learn how to take responsibility for their actions.
Permissive parenting can also lead to a lack of respect for authority. Children who are raised in a permissive environment may not understand why they should follow rules or respect authority figures. This can lead to problems in school and in other areas of life.
How to Avoid Permissive Parenting
If you want to avoid permissive parenting, it is important to set clear expectations and boundaries for your children. You should also be consistent in enforcing these expectations and boundaries.
It is also important to provide your children with structure and guidance. This can include setting a regular bedtime, having family meals together, and providing opportunities for your children to learn and grow.
Finally, it is important to be a good role model for your children. Show them how to make good decisions and take responsibility for their actions.

My 14 ye old just threw a tantrum over being told no about using the bathroom take my advice do not ever permissive parent ever
That child is going into the real world someday and your gonna hit the wall with your child I can do anything then reality sets in when the sheriff pulls your child over they hear no your fault for the first time then they end up pepper sprayed tazed cuffed and they get to learn the world cares if you permissive parent your raising a problem for this world and a failure to launch
I view permissive parenting as parenting in reverse. It is like the child is disciplining the parent by applying an immediate consequence, such as a tantrum, for not following their demands which ultimately conditions the parent into subordination. Additionally, permissive parenting can also be a sign of attachment issues because the parent spoils the child as a way to make up for not being emotionally available.
I would love to see a video about permissive parenting and the consequences.
This is SO TRUE. There is 1 child my child is friends w/ & he came over for a play. He was SO RUDE, demanding, didn't listen to me, disrespectful, screaming, ''NOOOOO,'' at me when I asked if he would like a glass of milk. He is BANNED from my house!! I watched his mother stay silent one day when he was REALLY rude to other people and was shocked she didn't tell him, ''Honey, that's not nice. We don't talk to people like that b.c. they might find it rude.' I was friends w. the mother until my son went there and ended up being let out to play, ended up playing ''traffic controller'' out on the road (at the age of 5)!!!! I was REALLY KIND when I brought it up with her but she ended up DUMPING ME as a friend!! (Obviously there are some issues going on there!!! LOL!!!)
I feel like my father was permissive…that and spoiled me too much growing up and now as an adult I can say it has really negatively affected my development
I am the son of permissive parents. My life is shit.
You have great information but sometimes your explanations are more wordy than clarifying. Repeating an idea can help cement the concept in memory if enough space is given. I see this is a 2016 video so there's a chance your delivery style changed. Thanks for sharing.
I know parents who were too permissive with their kids, who could never say no to their kids!! Too many of these kids end up leading, wayward lives!!!
