It's crazy how people get one track minded they can't accept anything that's somewhat new or I mean pocket hole screws have been around for a minute but and I don't know what the deal is with that The people that don't want to change….. I don't want anything new! It can be a little annoying I think people on the same boat with 3D printing but I use it on a utilitarian basis every almost every single day never for art never for trinkets or displace stuff it's always for something on a machine or fixing something or patching something or making a bracket for something or whatever and I think people are on the same boat with that with 3D printing. It's just another tool and it's all in how you use it not everybody knows how to use all tools so some people are just silly.
YouTube Shorts are for hack youtubers.
Your Halloween video for this year should be a project comprised solely of pocket hole joinery. Thatโll scare the purists.
Hmm, I have a desk that the top of it was put together with pocket holes. I've been using it for 35 years and it was already 15 – 20 years old when I got it. It must be going to fall apart any day now since it was put together with pocket holes. Ha Ha LOL
how has that been able to stand up to 12 years of SFO weather and people walking over it? i'd have thought the face boards would've started to sag a bit by now, they don't appear to be that thick-n-sturdy
Why the headline? Appears you like pocket holes as do I but using pocket holes is for hacks is very misleading. Unfortunately some people only see the headline.
See, it works. LOL.
Hey man, you doing ok?
Pocket hole joinery is the great gateway drug to woodworking. It turns newbies into woodworkers, breathing new life into the craft.
Pocket hole joinery is for those with pocket hole jigs. I recently dismantled a wardrobe from the 1920s that was built with them (using slotted screws). Those joints were still solid although a lot of the other joints were broken.
There is a time and a place for everything. Absolutism is ridiculous.
Great. Just getting into pocket screws
Shaker furniture from over a century ago used pocket hole joinery. I'm not sure why people think it's some modern corner-cut just because Kreg makes a popular jig.
OMG these people!!!!
Aiiiieeeeee!!!!
Spit, bubble gum, bailing wire, and duct tape/hundred-mile-hour tape are ALL HACKS! Jack! They have been holding the humans world together for millennia!
Move on with your "pocket hole" hate .. Hater!
Lol ๐๐๐๐!
I've used pocket hole joinery, the cabinets/ benches still holding 25+years. Satisfied!.๐
Oh, and it's not "Crappy Miter Joints"…..
They are "Experimental Studies in Miter-Jointery Angle Application".

Can you do an updated basic skills video on pocket screws and include trouble shooting.
I have issues with screws spinning around and no longer gripping, and not sure what I am doing wrong.
Also issues with MDF ๐คท
When it works out is brilliant though. ๐๐ป
A Pocket Hole Jig and YouTube made my first real project a major success. I found a Daybed plan that fit a crib mattress for my 75 lb dog. It easily supports 2 of my grandkids and my dog. It's still sturdy after 6 years of use. My 2nd project (also using pocket holes) was a king size farmhouse style panel bed. It's also 6 years old and still standing strong. I'm fine learning other joinery techniques but there's no shame in using this method.
I remember this one!
Yeah… the old pocket hole joinery is not strong enough for X discussion…
In my humble opinion there is nothing wrong with pocket holes in general BUT from a design standpoint I'd always make sure to never have any load-bearing screws in a project. The doormat is a perfect example for a pocket hole joinery that keeps the shape together but is not subject to any forces whatsoever so provided your screws don't rust through this will do its job for a long time.
My personal objective to pocket holes is the cost of the screws being 3x the price. So the manufacturers pay influencers. It's like the free meters for diabetics. Uhhhhmmm the real high cost item is the strips.
Anyone that buys their wood is a hack real woodworks grow their own trees.
Pocket Hole joinery is not the end-all, be all of woodworking fastening, but watching WWMM was actually what got me interested in them all those years ago.
Bravo!!!!
Does the wood mat keep the dirt out?
I bought that Kreg jig specifically for these applications. I love it like I love my pets.
Never thought to use pocket screws to hold miters together! Thanks for the tip Steve!
You should paint it and give it a bitchin' and welcoming look for visitors you invite over.
Booooooo to the nay sayers! ๐
I remember when you made it Steve ๐
Do people not understand the mechanical properties of screws? It's the same as regular screw fasteners, just at an angel. The physics of this is no different XD
My dad built oak kitchen cabinet face frames and carcasses using pocket screws and glue about 34 years ago. Still looked great when the house was sold a couple of years ago. Absolutely no joint separation in all that time. No reason to think they wouldnโt last another 30+ years or more.
I think it all comes down to the right application. Pocket screw joints have very high tension and shear strength, but are weak in torsion. So if you use the joint correctly it is a solid and efficient choice. The thing I donโt like is theyโre ugly. But if you can hide them (like the bottom of Steveโs mat), who cares?
People who say pocket holes are garbage are the definition of, "tell me you don't know anything about woodworking without telling me you don't know anything about woodworking."
Pocket holes and shoe trim are for hacks. As are power tools.
There's always gonna be the 'hack expert' making comments on people's videos about any type of fabrication. – – Mr. Ramsey has had a YouTube channel of FIFTEEN years this May – and has almost 2 MILLION Subscribers. – What does the HACK commenter have to show for his alleged knowledge and experience as a woodworker?
Pocket bike joinery was around before the PH jigs came out, and that furniture is till holding together. And some of them are classified as antiques.
If done in the right orientation they are solid
The miter would have stayed tight, and you wouldn't be claiming you didn't know how to read a tape measure and set the miter saw to 45 degrees; if the joinery wasn't just a pocket screw. But then your the one bringing the argument.
He's lying! He obviously did dovetails and made them look like pocket holes. I'm unsubscribing he's the worst.
Then why are you replacing it? Color?
