Potty Training In Days, Not Weeks (8 Essential Steps to Toilet Train Your Toddler Fast!)
Potty training can be a daunting task for parents, especially when it comes to getting it done quickly. It can take weeks or even months to get your toddler to use the toilet, but with the right approach, you can have them potty trained in days. This article will provide 8 essential steps to help you toilet train your toddler fast.
1. Start Early
The best time to start potty training is when your toddler is between 18 and 24 months old. This is when they are developmentally ready to start learning how to use the toilet. Starting early will also help you avoid any potential potty training issues that may arise if you wait too long.
2. Make It Fun
Potty training can be a stressful experience for both you and your toddler. To make it more enjoyable, try to make it fun. You can do this by using positive reinforcement, such as giving your toddler a sticker or a small treat when they successfully use the toilet. You can also make it fun by playing games or reading books about potty training.
3. Set a Schedule
Creating a potty training schedule is essential for success. You should set a regular time for your toddler to use the toilet, such as after meals or before bed. This will help them get into a routine and make it easier for them to remember when they need to go.
4. Use a Potty Chair
Using a potty chair can make potty training easier and more comfortable for your toddler. A potty chair is a small, portable toilet that is designed for toddlers. It is usually made of plastic and has a seat that is the right size for your toddler.
5. Use a Potty Seat
A potty seat is a device that fits onto the regular toilet seat and makes it easier for your toddler to use the toilet. It is usually made of plastic and has a seat that is the right size for your toddler. It also helps to make the toilet less intimidating for your toddler.
6. Use a Step Stool
Using a step stool can help your toddler reach the toilet more easily. It also helps them feel more secure and comfortable when using the toilet.
7. Use Positive Reinforcement
Positive reinforcement is an important part of potty training. Whenever your toddler successfully uses the toilet, make sure to praise them and give them a reward. This will help them to associate using the toilet with positive feelings.
8. Be Patient
Potty training can be a long and frustrating process. It is important to be patient and understanding with your toddler. If they have an accident, don’t get angry or frustrated. Instead, calmly explain why it is important to use the toilet and encourage them to try again.

Could you please share tips about potty training twins? Specially when there is just one parent available during weekends.
My daughter doesn’t care she is wet even when she wears toddler underwear
I ask her if she needs toilet. She says no then 1 minute later she wees on herself 😢
Hi Emma, just curious about beginning of toilet training night time and naps do they still wear a nappy?
My baby just turned 1yr but is the size of a two year old. He wears size 2-3 clothes, started walking at 9mnths and has 10 teeth. He also bends down when he needs to poo and does adult poos ( does not stain the diaper, poop is solid in a lump). In such a case how do you know whether he requires potty training? Confused about whether to look at milestones for 1 yr or for 2 because of his size and advance. Please help
You've been my guru ever since I got pregnant- from Toothbrush usage, to introducing solids, choosing high chair and now potty training! My boy was showing readiness at 15 to 18 months, "pretend" wiping himself..but we were going through alot of changes and I chickened!
Now he is 26 months old- he is ready because he knows what's toilet meant for, he knows difference between blue line/yellow line and even indicates when he wets the diaper. But he refusessssss to use the toilet. Even says "I don't like it". I've tried different configurations, followed everything from all your videos but I don't know what to do now. This week we are taking a break 🙁
Please help 🙏
99% No of course not! I want to play! What is wrong with you mommy? 🤣
Thank you for your advice….but I can't find family toilet seat for square toilet (bad design decision), what is the best next option please?
I have a interesting situation: my son has been potty training for 4.5 months…He's been pooping and peeing on the potty since the very beginning. Being wet doesn't seem to bother him not even in undies. I started with taking him every 20 min and now sometimes he'll go 2 hours, an hour…and sometimes even shorter times. 95% of the time I take him, he'll use it. Now learning he prefers the toilet potty seat over a floor potty. I don't know how to get him to turn this corner. With all of this, he does really good outside of the house though… Any advice?
Thanks! My daughter is 22 months old but just recently she started saying she wants to poo before doing so. We have a potty but she has never do it IN the potty, lol. I think she's not 100% ready yet but I want to try next month
You helped me helping my baby to turn over, crawl, walk, and now we meet again for potty training, nice to see you again 😆😆😆
Toilet with other kids. Don't hide that u go.
What do you recommend for parents whose toddlers possibly have a negative association with the toilet? We are in the midst of potty training because her daycare decided to start without us actually agreeing to it. She alternates between going dry for 1 hour to 2 and peeing every 20 minutes. I don't think she's ready but our hands have been forced.
Amazing tips, thank you so much. 😊
I followed all of your tips on potty training my 17 month old and we are on day 3. I have been reading him the "Potty" book by Leslie Patricelli and he loves the book, he asks for it everytime we are at the toilet. What happened though that is quite funny is that he began saying "popo" for every bodily function that he has, whether it's pee, poo, burps, or farts. So everytime he says "popo" I run to the toilet to find out he just needed to burp lol.
My child will just sit on a potty and pee right after getting off and having undies or diapers back on. Literally witching 60 seconds. That happens most of the time 😢
So in-depth! I truly appreciate your attention to descriptive language as an early childhood music educator.
I am about to get into this phase but my son is a cardiac baby and still wears size 3 diapers.
I tried finding a small potty but it is still too big for his tiny butt. Should I wait until he is 3 instead?
He is really good at taking instructions and unfortunately with the constipation drama we have had in the past, sometimes he is most comfortable doing it lying on the change table if it is a lot.
How do I transition now into training with such a tiny body that consumes a lot because of high calorie demands?
It was too good to be possible to get both my irish twin boys to get off the bottle and start either sippy cup or straw only to know they decided to skip straight to a simple cup. Hopefully potty training would be easy.
I watched your videos about pregnancy last year. And now here I am 😊
Silly question. What is a “nappy”? Is that just a training diaper or training underwear? Here in the US I am not familiar with that term.
I don’t know if it’s because she was ready way before we did it, but my daughter wanted to go to preschool with her friend, she had to be potty trained, so she just did it, in one day. One night time accident in the first week, and that was it. So I feel like we didn’t really potty train, and am a bit worried with doing it for our son! 😝
I always make the mistake "do you have to go potty?" She's like NOPE! 😂
the only toilet in our house is in a tiny tiny closet like space!! this is going to be a bit dificult… theres no space to stand in there with my child, let alone bend down to change them or anything… ugh.
I trained my two daughters within a week 35 and 28 years ago. Never had YT or any online media platforms in those days.
Yep my Mum, her family believed you must start at 3 months of age. Placing infants on a “ potty”! Thank you England!
Our baby is 7 months but I been potty training her since 4 months. She don't like when her diaper is wet. So she grab my hand and put it on her diaper to let me know she is wet. Most times she peed and poop on the potty. She is a fast learner now i've noticed that when she sits on the potty she peed and poop. She is learning that everytime I get her on her little potty she do her thing. I know that every babies are different some babies may not even like sitting on a little potty. But my baby don't mind it. Lol
I agree with what you saying Emma!

Can I start potty training my 16 month old?
“Jumping on the spot”?
Hi Emma, thanks for the amazing tips. My 20 months baby goes to the toilet when needed and also is in briefs when awake. However he is in his nappy when asleep. How do we train him during his sleep times. Thanks
I’m just trying to be routine with sitting on toilet after wake and wet diaper. If she wanna get off I let her to not push it and try sound association and squirting water in toilet where she would go pee
Do you think being in full time preschool or daycare delays the toilet training process? I work as a teaching assistant at a preschool in the two year old class and I only have 45 minutes to get 18 2 year olds through the morning bathroom routine. I feel like I'm on a racing pit crew. They're all in various stages of training. I'm always in a rush. I can't put them on the toilet unless I'm like 99% sure that they'll do something and most of the time I just end up putting on a diaper just because I don't have the time to make them sit. And they can't wear underwear unless we really think they're ready because I don't have time to be cleaning up accidents all the time. I don't think it's right. I wish I had either more time or less kids in my class. What do you think?
At what age should potty training start please
Thanks so much for this video!!! My kid is 3, and she was still refusing tô sit on the toillet to poop. I used the gradual approach that you teach and it worked great!!! Thanks again
