Charcoal Grill vs Gas Grill – Steak Experiments
Cooking steak is a popular pastime for many people, and there are a variety of ways to do it. One of the most popular methods is to use a charcoal or gas grill. Both grills have their advantages and disadvantages, and it can be difficult to decide which one is best for your steak-cooking needs. To help you make an informed decision, we’ve conducted a series of experiments to compare the results of cooking steak on a charcoal grill versus a gas grill.
Charcoal Grill
Charcoal grills are the traditional choice for cooking steak. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to use, and they provide a smoky flavor that many people enjoy. Charcoal grills are also very versatile, as they can be used to cook a variety of foods, including steak.
In our experiments, we found that steaks cooked on a charcoal grill had a smokier flavor than those cooked on a gas grill. The steaks also had a slightly crispier texture, which some people may prefer. However, the cooking time was longer than with a gas grill, and the temperature was harder to control.
Gas Grill
Gas grills are becoming increasingly popular for cooking steak. They are more expensive than charcoal grills, but they are also easier to use and provide more consistent results. Gas grills are also more energy-efficient than charcoal grills, as they use less fuel.
In our experiments, we found that steaks cooked on a gas grill had a more consistent flavor than those cooked on a charcoal grill. The cooking time was also shorter, and the temperature was easier to control. However, the steaks did not have the smoky flavor that is associated with charcoal grills.
Conclusion
Both charcoal and gas grills have their advantages and disadvantages when it comes to cooking steak. Charcoal grills provide a smoky flavor and a slightly crispier texture, but the cooking time is longer and the temperature is harder to control. Gas grills are more expensive and energy-efficient, but they do not provide the smoky flavor that is associated with charcoal grills.
Ultimately, the decision of which grill to use for cooking steak is up to the individual. Both grills can produce delicious results, so it is important to consider your own preferences and needs when making a decision.

How have I never discovered this channel until now?? Great content on here. Liked and subbed. I look forward to more uploads!
Nice video, I really liked it!
Aboot 20 minutes
As a carnivore, I grill steaks 2-3 times a week (or more), so I find it more practical using gas, since it is faster, cheaper, no smoke, less waste (when using charcoal a lot of it remains as waste), and the flavor is great. Do not read me wrong, I also have two charcoal grills because I love the flavor too.
G'day Mate, I agree with Brian below in the comments. I really found the content here very very good.
I have subscribed also. I agree with your assessment of Gas VS Charcoal.
I got hooked on BBQs after my first experience with charcoal (Like you)
I look forward to more informative videos. Thanks Mate from Down Under
both of these are well done! automatically in the trash.
he overcooked them. 130? sorry, but for steaks, don't go higher than 120. they will come up to 135 while resting.
Gas grill with volcanic rocks, and with a homemade smoke bag made out of aluminum foil (filled with dry beech chips, and only 1 small hole pierced) is the compromise I often go to. Gets a better flavor than just plain gas with no smoker chips or than just relying on the flavorizer bars. Volcanic rocks add to the flavor infusion especially if they are a little greasy and 'dirty' from previous sessions – but not overly grimy however.
It’s good to see you do a proper video given all the shorts in your feed lately. Shorts may get more views but please keep in mind this is trash engagement. 20k people watching you for 15s isn’t nothing compared to subscribers who will watch you for 20mins.
I have no interest in shorts. Please post real videos if actual cooking that I can learn from, be inspired by, etc.
Good videos, not more junk. Thanks/please.
You reverse seared on charcoal but seared on gas. Should be the same for both
This not a valid test ! You used lump charcoal you need to retest using KBB charcoal.
I came across your video trying to find an assembly video for my new gas/charcoal combo grill. Now I want a steak so bad and I have 7,000 pieces laying on my patio waiting to be married up! 🫣. Lol. Great video. I’m saving this one! Thanks
Iam Hank hill , i sell propane and propane accessories
He keeps the mask on his eyes even after guessing. Too funny
No brainer! You can always taste the charcoal. It's just a matter of which taist you like.
really great story when you got the grilling bug
I have a Charbroil gas coal grill. With one of these you don’t need two grills.
Drop the underliying music.
Worst cameraman
Love it!! I used to use a propane grill and after using my Weber, the food just tastes so much better and the temp MyBest.Kitchen control is so easy! Will never use a propane grill again!
Hi what kind of watch is that? Rolex?
Hold on a sec. He dipped the charcoal steak in the drippings, but didnt do the same on the gas grilled steak. Also, Kyle never said the charcoal was better, only that he noticed a difference. And he also used better words to describe the the gas grilled. At best we can say that if we assume that Kyle had the same nice things to say about the charcoal as he said about the gas grilled, then the only thing we get out of this is that they are different, and "not at first" and something about "you can tell in the smell". I don't know.
Dang!! Your a Pro with the charcoal grill. I enjoyed the vid boss
Will Ferrells brother?
Bought for my son. We have had one for years, works great. Can cook indirect and smoke meat. Done chicken, ribs, turkey, and the regular MyBest.Kitchen hot dogs and sausages. Excellent grill
Your charcoal grill never got hot enough for a true sear, or the grates were too high from the fire.
Over complicated!!! Jesus man, it is a steak. Just ask every one what cook they would like and get to work.
I prefer a flame-broiled steak, any way you want to cook it. Charcoal or gas, depends on my mood & timeframe.
There's no taste difference in taste between charcoal and gas per se. Charcoal doesn't add any taste, neither does gas. what makes the grill taste is the drippings that evaporate.
I have done the slow cook on a pellet smoker then sear on the gas grill , great smoky flavour
Charcoal for flavor, gas for convenience.
Hell yes! Great comparison. Thank you kind Sir.
You can add smoker boxes to gas grill idiots
This isn't even a comparison, they are both cooked different styles, no way to tell if gas or charcoal is better when you cook them differently. 🤦♂️
He looks like Will Ferrell!! 😂
Internal of 200?! Wtf
The camera work is sloppy, I’m not sure why the video is so cloudy in some shots.
I always look forward to these uploads. The recipes are amazing and the experiment videos aren't clickbait junk. Either way I ALWAYS learn something watching this channel!
2:20, steak to an internal temp of 200? We doing steak or pulled pork?
Can you show us how to make that homemade bacon?
I personally use coal but gas grill steaks aren't actually that bad. Either way is another eat in the books. Great vid!
Looks delicious nice video 👌
Great video
How is this a fair experiment when one steak is seared and the other reverse sear??
Gas grilling sucks!
Either one of those steaks with some eggs, toast, and hash browns sounds amazing right now 🤤
